Certain Combinations for Depression
Well. I do not intend to introduce you directly to the various planetary combinations and features which signify the tendency of an individual to slip into depressions. The reason is simple. Astrological terms can themselves be quite worrying! Nevertheless, what I intend to do is to narrate an experience. This is quite a common feature about what professionals call ‘Lunar Effect’. Water, magnetism, wave mechanics, marine animals etc. have a connection to the Moon. Astrologically, Moon has everything to do with the mind… In a number of marine animals, there is stronger evidence for the effects of lunar cycles. Observed effects relating to reproductive synchrony may depend on external cues relating to the presence or amount of moonlight. Corals contain light-sensitive cryptochromes, proteins that are sensitive to different levels of light. Coral species such as Dipsastraea speciosa tend to synchronize spawning in the evening or night, around the last quarter moon of the lunar cycle. In Dipsastraea speciosa, a period of darkness between sunset and moonrise appears to be a trigger for synchronized spawning. Another marine animal, the bristle worm Platynereis dumerilii, spawns a few days after a full moon. It contains a protein with light-absorbing flavin structures that differentially detect moonlight and sunlight. It is used as a model for studying the biological mechanisms of marine lunar cycles. Back to this experience of mine. A perfectly normal looking young man entered my consulting room and asked a rather puzzling question, ‘Sir, can one have control over the dreams he gets to see during sleep?’ I do not know what this syndrome can be but the question placed human effort in a tight spot. Quite simply, for that matter, do we have control over sleep or lack of it? Is there a correct connection between good sleep and a happy mind? ‘No…’,I said, ‘…but if you tell me your problem, I can see if I can help you.’ He looked at the pictures on the walls and said, ‘ Sure. If it is a no moon day or full moon day, I wriggle in the bed and I just cannot imagine what I get to see. I see strange faces, strange people and sometimes people known to me and had died some time ago…’ ‘This happens on the no Moon night, right?’, I interrupted. He stared at me. ‘How did you fathom that?’ ‘Go on…I will tell you later.’ ‘On the full-Moon day, I see myself strolling on the seabed, see strange worlds, funny people, some times there are wild animals jumping and playing behind me just as I want to reach a safe haven. On one occasion, I saw an old man who actually came to my office the next day just as I was preparing to leave. I stood up shocked. He looked at me, smiled and picked up a visiting card. He then waved at me and said…not you, young man…and walked away to another table.’ I started contemplating. The first and foremost combination which comes to the forefront is the Scorpio Ascendant (Vrishchika Lagna) with the Yogakaaraka Moon in the seventh house exalted (Taurus or Vrisabham). But I wanted him to reveal more from what he described was a serious problem. It was indeed…
(to be continued…) So I resume this narration. Let us see what happened later. He confessed that a competent psychiatrist had diagnosed him with the trouble known as OCD-Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The phenomenon can be perceived by anyone who finds himself irritated once too often and cannot hold another’s opinion even for a second if that is different or opposite to his! The irritation transforms into a compulsion in a second and puts the person inside a tightly closed tin where from he can hardly wriggle out and as a consequence, bursts out to a degree which either cannot be understood by others or can be easily misunderstood as a dominating, rude and arrogant behaviour. Well. This is just one side of the phenomenon-sometimes treated as a symptom of a deeper ramification hibernating inside the mined of an overly sensitive individual. The human mind is a mysterious entity. Some of the most cowardly and nervous guys can exhibit some of the most brave and unthinkable act in life! The fact to be understood here is ‘inconsistency’ or a chain of funny, oscillating moods. At the precipice of all this is the position of the waxing or the waning moon. Dreams as manifestations of setbacks or intentions lying dormant surface as incidents while corroborating with the moon’s weakening or strengthening cycle-ascending or descending moon. Moon being the Yogakaaraka for the ascendant of Scorpio plays a significant role in reflecting the nature of the mind in a horoscope depicting the ascendant of Scorpio. An astrologer can reflect on this ascendant’s nature. These individuals rely more on their intelligence and believe (often foolishly) that what strikes them is actually paramount! One cannot blame them since the impressions generated in their mind are vivid and often picturesque. A visual, its impact and the conclusions thereof have a rather stronger effect on the human mind than a deduction made from an enriching discussion or discourse. It is true that the phenomenon of the moon, dreams and intuitions open doors to dormant areas of research related to the universal energy, consciousness and metaphysics as one progresses into the study of esoteric astrology. Nevertheless, I shall restrict the scope of this article only to suggestions for naturally permeating the energies of the mind and its primary source of nutrition-through sound! Sound is energy-that kind of energy which stabilises and nourishes. It solves and resolves several problems. Listen to the music given below:
Though the article would be continued before certain Astrological inferences can be made, here is music for those who are troubled by dreams and need better quality sleep.
